Creme de la Mer ~ Is This £200 Moisturiser a Fail or Holy Grail? My Unbiased Review & Dupe

creme de la mer

I first stumbled upon Creme de la Mer around 2005 after reading about it in various magazines and newspapers.  Despite only being in my early twenties at the time, I was very curious although as I’m sure most of you can relate, despite the impressive claims the £150-£500 price tag put me off a bit!

The Claimed Background Story of Creme de la Mer

“When aerospace physicist Dr. Max Huber was burned in a laboratory accident, he went on a crusade to restore his skin. What began as one man’s journey became a transformative experience that would be whispered about all over the world.  Inspired by the renewing energies of the sea, Huber fermented nutrient-rich kelp with other natural ingredients. 12 years and 6,000 experiments later, his Miracle Broth™ was born – and Huber’s skin visibly restored. Word of Dr. Huber’s perfected formula spread, captivating new devotees. Their transformative journey was just beginning.” ~ Taken from: www.cremedelamer.co.uk

Fast forward eight or so years, my curiosity piqued once more.  My skin had always been oily although sometimes (usually in winter) it would get dry patches with an oily surface over it.  Very strange and annoying as I found products for oily skin could be too harsh and products for dry skin were way too heavy, making my oily areas worse. 5 Ways to Take Charge of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)

girl-in-the-sun

So, the clocks went back last weekend which means darker shorter days ahead “Boooooo!”  I am definitely a sunshine girl at heart which is one of the reasons why I travel so much I think.  I always find that my mood changes this time of year and I know for sure its down to the early sunsets and becoming pitch black by 4pm (Hi December around the corner!)

It can be a bit depressing, especially when working from home like myself.  As soon as it begins to get dark, my body instructs me to down tools, days over when in actual fact it’s only 3:30pm!

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I definitely have a mild case of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).  SAD is a form of seasonal depression that is brought on by the change in the weather and season.  Most people experience SAD in winter time.

It happens to many of us this time of year, particularly in winter.  After trialling some of my own personal methods, I’ve set out 5 effective ways to combat SAD:

Sir Henry’s Bar & Restaurant ~ Beware of Children & Ducks

sir henrys aveley essex

Aveley’s Sir Henry’s is Sir Tasty

When I moved to Essex from London not so long ago, it took some time getting to know where to go for good food, drinks with a decent beer garden at the back! (#priorities).

I am a sucker for fine dining and getting all dolled up to go to a nice restaurant followed by a lounge bar or club blah blah… but sometimes I just fancy catching up with friends over a glass of wine (or three) at a nice but simple establishment that serves great homely food and has a nice atmosphere.  Cue Sir Henry’s! 5 Holy Grail Skincare Products For Oily/Problem Skin

holy grail skin care products for oily problem skin

I have had very oily problem skin for as long as I can remember and in my late 20’s I (very suddenly) developed acne!  I put it down to the the drastic climate change, returning to freezing blighty after being in the sun for 11 months while working on a cruise ship, but as my skin got worse I knew it was simply my hormones.

This sudden acne flare up ruled my life at the time and I was determined to get rid of it come hell or high water!  It was making me paranoid to the point I didn’t want to go to work.  I tried every lotion, potion and acne treatment you can think of from weekly microdermabrasions, potent spot creams, Proactiv regimine, intense face peels, stupidly expensive face creams…. the list goes on. The only thing that seemed to help my skin at that time when all else failed was high doses of pantothenic acid supplement and a very basic (and inexpensive) simple skincare regime.

Now I’m in my 30’s, apart from the odd spot here and there, I’m happy to say my skin is pretty clear.  I do get occasional flare ups and my skin can become very sensitive as I occasionally use retinol products in winter, although using the products below, unless I’m going out to meet the girls for lunch, go on a date or a night out, I feel completely comfortable and confident going without make up. Speedboats: Top 7 Tips To Avoid Stepping Aboard A Glamourpuss & Stepping Off A Sourpuss!

yacht-bahamas-speedboat

Travelling by speedboat is most of the time good fun!  Its thrilling, exciting and exhilarating.  But in my experience, those words could only be used to describe smaller speedboats that you hire yourself on holiday, or perhaps as part of a tour that you may have organised.  The speedboat journey’s I’m referring to here are private transfers on which you are sat for no less than an hour and half – pedal to the metal, covering around 100 miles at 90mph!

Holiday Blues!

I’ve been back from Sicily six days and even now the holiday blues are hard to completely shake off.  What a beautiful place.  Full of culture, history, charm, incredible architecture and of course great food and wine 😉

We spent ten days there hopping around which is the best way in my opinion. We managed to squeeze in six spots including two of the Aeolian islands, a stunning hidden gem which for some reason only few people know about.  I share my experience in Sicily here in this post if you’d like to read more ~ Sicilian Adventure

Magical Mustique Island

mustique-island

Breathtaking

The first moment I stepped onto this beautiful island of pure white sand and turquoise waters, I knew that out of the 20 or so islands I’ve visited so far in my lifetime, this one was going to be a tough one to beat.

Mustique is a private paradise frequented by many celebrities and royalty alike (Wills and Kate apparently stayed in our villa and Beyonce and Jay Z were on the island just a week before we arrived).  One of the pull factors for celebrities and royalty is the privacy that this island offers.  No paparazzi allowed and to in order for any pap get a snap they would need to get a boat and take pics from afar!

Mustique is a tiny private island covering only just 5.7km and is located in St Vincent and the Grenadines.  It takes approximately 25mins to drive around the entire island so this is not a place for major explorers or those that bore easily!  I flew from London to St Vincent and then took a tiny (rather bumpy) plane to Mustique.  On the way home I transferred in barbados.

Spotlight Review ~ Dr. Organic Honey Manuka Rescue Cream

dr-organic-manuka-honey-cream

What’s all the fuss about?!

There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the Dr Organic Manuka Honey Rescue Cream over the past while. Many claims that it has completely or significantly healed eczema, psoriasis, skin tags, dry skin and even reports of it regulating oily skin and helping with acne.  I purchased from Holland and Barrett’s with a reasonable price tag of £8.99!
