4 Effective Ways to Use Milk of Magnesia To Combat Oily Skin

milk of magnesia oily skin

Oily skin has been a bugbear of mine ever since I was a teenager as I talked about in my previous post 5 Holy Grail Skin Products for Oily Skin.
I breakout very easily and would have to touch up my make up to de-shine several times a day.  After trying hundreds of products and potions (few which DO work as set out in my previous blog post ) I’ve finally discovered an inexpensive gem that most people have laying around the home; Milk of Magnesia!

Here are some of the many uses of this magical product which works very well for oily skin, blackheads, acne and everything else that comes with it!

The Star Product ~ Milk of Magnesia

Milk of Magnesia is traditionally used as an antacid and liquid saline laxative. When taken orally it works by drawing water out of the colon.  Although that sounds a bit urgh(!)  It’s a wonder lotion for mattifying oily skin.  It helps to prevent pores from producing excess oil, and creates the illusion of smaller pores.  Milk of Magnesia is also helpful in preventing spots as it contains Zinc which kills bacteria, making it healing for any existing spots you may have.  It’s priced reasonably and can be picked up from Boots or online here for under £10.00 for 355ml which will last you a good while!

5 Holy Grail Skincare Products For Oily/Problem Skin

holy grail skin care products for oily problem skin

I have had very oily problem skin for as long as I can remember and in my late 20’s I (very suddenly) developed acne!  I put it down to the the drastic climate change, returning to freezing blighty after being in the sun for 11 months while working on a cruise ship, but as my skin got worse I knew it was simply my hormones.

This sudden acne flare up ruled my life at the time and I was determined to get rid of it come hell or high water!  It was making me paranoid to the point I didn’t want to go to work.  I tried every lotion, potion and acne treatment you can think of from weekly microdermabrasions, potent spot creams, Proactiv regimine, intense face peels, stupidly expensive face creams…. the list goes on. The only thing that seemed to help my skin at that time when all else failed was high doses of pantothenic acid supplement and a very basic (and inexpensive) simple skincare regime.

Now I’m in my 30’s, apart from the odd spot here and there, I’m happy to say my skin is pretty clear.  I do get occasional flare ups and my skin can become very sensitive as I occasionally use retinol products in winter, although using the products below, unless I’m going out to meet the girls for lunch, go on a date or a night out, I feel completely comfortable and confident going without make up.
